Some very rough notes from Laura Crossett:
Breakout 1
STAFF DEVELOPMENT
tech comfort--making it fun
developing new leaders, succession planning
tech necessary for good customer service
training very different groups of librarians
taking local programs statewide
CLiC tutorials--School 101
social networking & staff development
socialization into the profession
19 things
Idaho--set up Special Projects Library Action Teams (SPLAT)--people in libraries who use the social tools--they hang out on couches at conferences, show people how to use various technologies, now doing an 8 Things
prizes! fun! we give prizes for summer reading; why not for staff?
get people who aren't the director to organize training
staff need to learn tech in order to keep up with patrons, esp. students
digital scavenger hunt--prize is a free registration to state conference--made all the things be tech people should know for their jobs
people learn at point of need--how do you create that need?
collaborating across the state using social tools
little video tapes made at point of need posted to intranet
need a face to go with a presentation--engagement goes way up--even a static picture works better than no picture
why are workshops an hour long? aim for 20-30 minutes instead
using games to train staff
